Customer Reviews

Stir It Up Turntable is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Addition to our music room Love the quality, look, feel, and most important the SOUND of this guy. Setup was easy but we were the last generation to have turntables so we needed a brief reminder about speed settings and how best to use the Stir It Up. We do know about sound and the quality coming from the pre-amp out to RCA is excellent. I don't think it would drive large speakers but the small ones we have (iPod HiFi & Google Home Max) produce wonderful sound and it has that texture that I miss from analog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome turntable. Dashing looks I love the turntable. It runs beautifully. The sound is amazing as well as the eco-friendly design which gives it a very special look. I've had it for months now and I must say it never failed to provide the best music experience. The one thing I didn't like is having no solid dust cover. The one provided is very nice but it hides its beauty in the room so I had to have a cover made for it. That won't affect my opinion that this wonderful piece of art machine is 10 out of 10. Thank you, guys for making it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks nice. Operates poorly... I've had this turntable for about a year and have used it occasionally... Since day one, I always felt that it was running a little fast on 33. 45 rpm plays accurately, and I'll admit, it sounds very nice... But unfortunately, I am rarely playing anything at 45... The speed problem at 33 has only become worse over the last year unfortunately. I've recently confirmed that it is spinning too fast at an audio specialty store where a technician diagnosed the problem with a strobe disc... He politely told me that between the poor construction and cheap parts & design, I'd be better off replacing the turntable with another "entry level" model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the look and the eco-friendly nature of it! After searching for a wooden plinth turntable for the past few weeks, I decided to purchase the Stir it Up Turntable last week. It arrived quickly, and I had it set up and connected in about 15 minutes. I chose it over a few other brands' wooden plinth models because of the eco-friendly bamboo and recycled aluminum build, and also because it includes an auto-stop feature. If I leave the room where the music is playing, I don't come back an hour later to a still spinning record. The counter weight and anti-skating adjustments took some trial and error to get a combination that didn't skip frequently, and that allowed the arm to reach the inner position to trigger the auto shut-off. Basically the Anti-skate is at zero, and I think I had to go a little past the recommend 2.5g tracking force (but because the initial tonearm zero-balance is somewhat subjective on this player, it's hard to say exactly what the force is as I don't have a scale to measure it on.) Lastly, there was one annoyance that almost caused me to request a return of this player: motor noise. We could hear the motor spinning from across the room even with music playing. It sounded like a tractor-trailer compression braking down a hill non-stop. I noticed if I disconnected the belt the motor became silent, so it had to be due to the belt side-load on the motor shaft and bearings. I decided to try to resolve it with a quick possible fix: a single drop of light-weight oil on the shaft. I reinstalled the platter and belt, and after a few minutes of spinning and letting the oil penetrate down the shaft into the bearing, I'm happy to report that this significantly reduced the motor noise, and now it can only be heard when no music is playing. I hope that others who are frustrated with a noisy motor on their Stir It Up turntable can likewise silence it with a drop of oil, and therefore decide to hold onto this eco-friendly turntable... because there's nothing less eco-friendly than the additional packaging and cross-country shipments of a return, and items ending up land-filled because they didn't satisfy the customer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but tricky to set up EXPLAINED So I will start by saying that the turntable is very well made, high quality materials and in the end fairly high quality sound for the price. It looks beautiful - best in class in those regards. However setting it up was rather tricky and fiddly for me anyway. Before I go into troubleshooting I will just sun up he turntable. GOOD points It looks exellent - very stylish - High quality and expensive! Sound pretty dang good once set up to a nice pair of speakers. NOT GREAT points .As nice as the fabric dustcover is - an acrylic or plastic would be nicer so you could see the turntable. .Tricky to set up at first .Motor is a little loud on 45 rpm and is noticibly loud at low volume. .no built in volume control, although not a problem if your speakers have them built in TROUBLESHOOTING I set up the tone arm like stated on a video by the house of marley on youtube however I was experiencing skipping and the tone arm would not get to the end of the record and just spring back. I fixed this by setting the tone arm to 2.5 - turning the counter weight clockwise to 2.5. Then setting the anti skate to around 0.5 to 1. It now plays to the end of the record with no skipping. If you are still having problems make sure the anti skate is on 2.5 as it can move out of position. Also just try adjusting the anti skate. Another problem was still skipping on some records. In the end I found if you put a penny in the stylus whilst playing the bit that skipped ( or the whole reclrd but be careful as it may damage records) and then once its cleared the skipping, take the penny off and it should play fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely love it! This was my first record player I’ve ever bought and I am very impressed! I have it hooked up to my sound system and it sounds wonderful! It is also a beaut to look at :) Setup was a breeze, too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage product I really wanted to love this turntable. The mission of the company and the sustainability of the product and packaging were a huge draw, along with the overall aesthetics. This was my first time connecting a turntable to my Sonos, after I bought a Connect to complete the setup. I've now received 2 defective turntables with the same issue though, and House of Marley wants me to pay return shipping for the second defective turntable, which is some right lousy customer service. I'm pretty sure I paid for a working turntable, but after 5 months, I still don't have one. Wishing I had just gone to Best Buy. Would never consider purchasing from them again.

how to correctly setup a counterweight and tracking force for stir-it-up turntable ?

Asked by: Piorek
Hey, Piorek. The counterweight, assuming you've assembled it, for the stylus that the Stir It Up comes with has a tracking force of 2.5 to 3.5 grams, so you want to get it to about 3.0 grams. To do this you need to adjust the counterweight until the tone are is floating level, this is a little tough because this turntable doesn't give the tone arm much play, so you might have to tap it a few time until you're confident it's floating level with (or parallel to) the platter. At this point you should be at 0 grams, so take the face plate of the counterweight, but do not adjust the weight itself, and fix it to 0 grams. Now you should be able to adjust the back part and set it to 3 grams. I hope that helped.

I received this turntable a month ago and love it. Except for one issue. If a record ends and I turn it over immediately everything works fine, if I don’t turn it right away the table no longer spins And I have to unplug the player to get it to work.

Hello, can you tell me exactly which type of Audio-Technica MM cartridge s installed on the turntable?

Asked by: Giacomo
Thank you for your question. The included audio-technica ATN3600 cartridge is a standard ½” mount moving magnet design. We would recommend using the ½” mount cartridge AT100E. This cartridge can mount to our head shell directly. We don’t recommend an aftermarket headshell.

What are the recommended tone arm settings for the counter weight and anti-skating control?

Asked by: JK70
Normally the anti-skating should be set to its minimum setting. Anti-skate compensates for inward tracking forces that occur with certain pick-up when the stylus nears the center of the record. If the turntable is experiencing excessive skipping while nearing the center spindle, try increase the anti-skating in the increments indicated on the dial. Start by adding an increment of 1, test its performance, then increase it more, and so on. During adjusting the anti-skating knob, leave the tone arm and balance weight alone to prevent damaging the stylus (needle). EN

Does it have built in speakers or do I have to buy those separately?

Asked by: dgranzow
It does not have Speakers. It does have RCA output jack as well as USB output. You can direct connect to a sound bar but if you’re looking at a multi speaker set up you should connect this to a receiver and then hook your speakers up to the receiver.

That is correct. You should be able to connect to any speaker with an aux input.

How do I upgrade the cartridge? Thanks

Asked by: Bassicjoe
Hi Bassicjoe, It is quite simple actually: Most cartridges will fit. This includes 5 relatively straight forward steps. 1. unscrew cartridge 2.remove cables and note the colors of each chanel and its location on the cartridge. Mostly it will be one cable in each corner of the cartridge. Assuming the stylus points down and you are looking at the cartidge from the tone arm side (back), Blue and White on the top and bottom left side will be your L- and L+. green and red on the right are the same but for the right side. Colors may differ with this particular model. *Take care to no not drop the cartridge with the stylus side down on the ground. 3. attach cables of your new cartridge (Check datasheet for L+.L-,R+ and R-) 4. Screw the new cartridge onto the tonearm, not tight yet! 5. Use a cartridge protractor to adjust the position along the adjustment slits on the tone arm. Look at a youtube video wo hel you with that. its hard to put in simple words. Hope with helps. Cheers
