Growing up on Australia’s North South Wales south coast, Owen ("Owe") has been spoiled with perfect reef barrels and punchy beach breaks. Owen really made an impact on Hawaii’s North Shore when he was only 14, surfing a day at 3rd reef Pipeline and scoring some huge heaving Pipe barrels. His style is smooth and tight in the pocket with a handbook of aerial maneuvers. Owen loves nothing more than floating above the lip, but is just as happy in big meaty barrels. One of the most focused and driven individuals the sport of surfing has ever seen, he has always maintained a down-to-earth attitude about life and his career. About.com’s Surfing Guide said of Owen, "His repertoire is blindingly futuristic. Giant airs and no-grab spins through and above the lip make for stunning moments in both free surfing and in heats. But where speed and creativity are his obvious strengths, he also possesses an innate sense for tube riding."
Living Marley is about seeing the looks on groms faces when I paddle up after one of their waves and say "sick turn" or help them at an event. Its about staying grounded when the world is crazy around you and being humble, present and in the moment.
I weave music into my life as a way to tap into different motivations. Sometimes its hard rock to get really pumped or Reggea to feel happy and light or other mellow music to get introspective…Its always changing and that keeps me inspired.
