Strike Hard for the Reggae Girlz! Jamaica’s National Women’s Team vying to be the first Caribbean team to win a World Cup Championship.

The Jamaica Football Federation is seeking funds to cover the initial costs of training camps, nutrition, travel, and housing for the 26-woman team.

And the House of Marley wants to help. But we need your help, too.

The Reggae Girlz are at the top of their game and are real contenders to win the World Cup in 2015. Unfortunately, funding from the Jamaican Football Federation is not spread evenly and almost all resources are used to support the men’s team. The House of Marley wants to even the playing field and help get the Reggae Girlz the proper funding required for practice and qualifying games.

You can help us support the Reggae Girlz on their journey to the 2015 World Cup by heading to gofundme.com/JamaicaWomensFootball and donate to the Reggae Girlz program.

Mention House of Marley in the comments section of the GoFundMe page when you donate, and we’ll match it until we reach $5k.

I am Reggae Girlz!

House of Marley X Oshima Surf And Skate Launch #LiveMarleyBigIsland

Oshima

In October, we launched #LiveMarleyNYC with our Team Marley crew on-hand, but this month we’re headed off the mainland and setting down some roots in Hawaii. Partnered together with our friends at Oshima Surf And Skate, we’re bringing the #LiveMarleyBigIsland movement to the Big Island and beyond.

Oshima, which means “Big Island” in Japanese, has been gathering all the best gear and delivering it to the skaters and surfers of Hawaii since forming in October 2011. It started out as the dream of two fishermen-by-day, Mike Abe and Time Jones, who felt the need to bring killer products to their homeland. Just under two years later, the original brick-and-mortar has seen so much success that it has led to Oshima opening two more storefronts.

The #LiveMarleyBigIsland collab kicks off this weekend when Team Marley invades the Oshima shop for a party of epic proportions. Join us for a night full of music from HOM DJ Pat Simpson, great food and prizes with Team Marley members including Michael Ho, Makua Rothman, Donovan Frankenreiter and recent HIC Pro winner, Mason Ho. The man himself, Rohan Marley will be in the house and spreading the love, in honor of the House of Marley.

Head to the Oshima Hilo location on November 16 and get ready to experience the start of something epic, the #LiveMarleyBigIsland movement. In addition to the party, there will be a House of Marley pop-up shop within Oshima that will feature our earth-friendly headphones, audio systems, Lively Up Bags and timepiece collection. It’s going to be a fun time on the Big Island when the House of Marley and Oshima crews unite for the perfect combo of skate, surf, style and sound.

House Of Marley X Dave’s Wear House Bike Auction

Dave'sWearHouse

We kicked off our partnership with Dave’s Wear House in NYC last week with an epic party featuring the Team Marley crew and the uber-exclusive Dubwise on-ear headphones. The crown jewels of the event though were two custom-made bikes from the House of Marley and DWH that were strictly built for our collaboration. These one-of-a-kind bikes are unlike any other cruisers you’ve ever seen before.

To have your chance at owning one of these killer bikes, you’ll have to put on your philanthropic hat on and donate some dough to an awesome charity. Through a special auction going on over at CharityBuzz, DWH and yours truly will be handing over the bike to the highest bidder, and all of the money raised will be given to Stoked. Based in Brooklyn and LA, Stoked is a bi-coastal charity that has been helping kids learn more about themselves through surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding.

Check out these close-up shots of the HOM X DWH bike and see what you could potentially miss out on if you don’t bid right now:

Relive the fun below with some sick snaps from the party and head over to CharityBuzz to try and win your HOM X DWH bike, a pair of Liberate on-ear headphones, a leather Scout Pack and our Hitch timepiece.

House of Marley Teams Up With Dave’s Wear House For #LiveMarleyNYC

Dave'sWareHouse

If you have your swag on lockdown in New York City than you probably already know about Dave’s Wear House. For those that are uninitiated, this emporium of killer street style gear in Lower Manhattan has been selling sick t-shirts, sneakers, bags, bikes, skateboards and audio gear since 2011. We’re proud to announce that the House of Marley has teamed up with Dave’s Wear House to bring the #LiveMarley movement to the streets of the Big Apple.

Dubbed #LiveMarleyNYC, we’re kicking off our partnership with Dave’s Wear House by throwing an epic party on October 3. With live DJ sets, giveaways and food from the infamous Miss Lilly’s, the celebration is going to be going off. The Team Marley crew including Mason Ho, Michael Ho, Owen Wright, Tyler Wright, Luis Tolentino, Danny Supa, Makua Rothman, Karl Watson, John Jackson, Tyson Chandler and Trey Burke will be invading Dave’s and mingling with the crowd for a night full of fun.

In honor of our collaboration with Dave’s Wear House, we’ve teamed up together to create some killer gear to giveaway at the #LiveMarleyNYC launch party. Our designers at the House of Marley have created an exclusive pair of on-ear headphones for Dave’s by taking the Positive Vibration headphones and giving them a new twist. Renamed Dubwise, these on ear-headphones feature Dave’s signature bright pink and light blue color scheme and are limited to only 50 pairs. It gets even sicker.

DavesWearHouseDave’s Ware House is known for selling both fixed gear and free wheel bikes that are perfect for tearing up the streets of New York. These bikes are already extremely tricked out, but the House of Marley and DWH have created a new, one-of-a-kind version to celebrate their collaboration. With slick new paint schemes based on both companies colors, 1Love logos on the frame and a #LiveMarleyNYC brand, you’ve got a chance to win one of these killer bikes. Your opportunity to win a new bike comes Monday, October 7. On that day, a live auction will start (Find more info on our Facebook page), the proceeds of which will go to Stoked, a Brooklyn based charity that focuses on help develop the skills of kids who skateboard, surf and snowboard.

It’s all going down October 3 in New York City when we launch the partnership of the House of Marley and Dave’s Wear House. Come hang out with the Team Marley crew and have a chance to walk away with a limited edition HOM/DWH pair of on-ear headphones or one of these unique bikes. We’ll see you in NYC!

The House of Marley Recieves High Praise For Liberate On-Ear Headphones

Liberateon-earheadphones

Here at the House of Marley, we love creating the sickest sounding audio gear possible. Yet, it’s important to us to do so without making a large impact on the environment. Through countless hours of design work and testing, some sleepless days and nights, we’ve created the next pair in our series of killer on-ear headphones — the Liberate.

Built with stainless steel, FSC certified wood and our exclusive REWIND material, the Liberate are our latest pair of earth-friendly headphones. Bumping out booming bass and crisp trebles, courtesy of 40mm high performance drivers, these headphones offer high sound quality without any negative connotations.

Don’t just take it from us! We’re snapping up praise left and right for the Liberate headphones. The culmination of effortless style and impeccable sound quality, these new on-ear headphones have already received rave reviews from Highsnobiety, Gear Patrol, Gearculture and more. Check out what they had to say below:

Liberateon-earheadphones2

“Standing out from the crowd has never been easier with House of Marley’s Liberate. Boasting an earth-friendly design made of stainless steel and sustainable wood, these on-ear headphones is also fine tuned for excellent sound, strong acoustics, and all-day comfort.” – Gearculture

“You need a fly pair of headphones, but you don’t want to harm the environment with an irresponsible, earth-damaging purchase. Well… don’t worry ’bout a thing, ’cause every little thing is gonna be all right” - Gear Patrol

“Their design is matched by a high-performance delivery of sound with the MARLEY signature sound.” – Highsnobiety

“… Leather ear cushions that provide a soft feel and lasting comfort while delivering sound isolation for full immersion into your favorite music.” – Vouchmag

Legend: Remixed Documentary Debuts At El Rey Theatre

LegendRemixed

The House of Marley was out in force at the debut of the Making of Bob Marley Legend: Remixed. The documentary, which showcases modern musicians and producers remixing classic Bob Marley tracks, premiered at the beautiful El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, California to a huge crowd.

The party went off before the movie even started with hype DJ sets from Beat Antique and Photek. Some of the crew taking in the sights and sounds of the House of Marley, 1Love and Tuff Gong party included Ziggy Marley, Team Marley member skate ambassador Karl Watson, The Heavy, Jim James and Legend: Remixed producer Jason Bentley.

LegendRemixed2 LegendRemixed4 LegendRemixed6

While introducing the film, Jason Bentley talked about the process that he went through in assembling the artists to create this tribute to Bob Marley. With the idea of modernizing the revolutionary message of Marley’s music, the main concept focused on bringing a new appeal to music with a peaceful message.

LegendRemixed5 LegendRemixed3

The party may be over, but the new legacy of the Legend: Remixed album has just begun. The documentary is now available online for free (Check out the bonus section of this blog!), and to celebrate we are offering you a chance to win a copy of the Legend: Remixed album and a pair of our earth-friendly headphones. Tyson Chandler Slam Dunks With The House of Marley

Tyson Chandler

Tyson Chandler doesn’t fit the stereotypical mold of a professional athlete. As a seasoned NBA veteran, now approaching his 13th year in the league, Chandler’s outlook has always been proof that a positive attitude shines over a negative one. With that being said, we’re proud to announce that Tyson will now be representing the House of Marley as a member of Team Marley.

Being a part of Team Marley is a lifestyle. It means that not only are you the best at your game, but that you also have an interest in supporting the world that surrounds you. Through his numerous charity initiatives and volunteer man hours, Tyson has always demonstrated compassion for others, both on and off the basketball court.

We recently had an opportunity to sit down with Tyson and pick his brain about everything ranging from his start in basketball to his favorite on-ear headphones. Get the lowdown on Tyson’s views on style, role models and the #LiveMarley movement below and find out what this NBA champion does to give back to the community.

TysonChandler1

Who or what inspired you to pursue basketball professionally?

I would say my surroundings. Growing up in the area I grew up in… I grew up in a lot of rough neighborhoods. Basketball was a way to get out for me.

Now that you’ve made it to the NBA and have won a championship and an Olympic medal, what inspires you to keep pushing?

My family. My family and the drive to be the best.

Are there certain people in your life who have served as role models for the way you live?

Yeah. For sure. Outside of my sport, my grandfather. He definitely showed me what a true work ethic is and how to be professional and how to take my professionalism seriously. I would say that he has been the biggest role model throughout my career.

What about in terms of basketball players? Who has influenced your career?

Bill Russell, Scottie Pippen, Charles Oakley. Those are a couple of guys that have inspired me.

What made you want to work with the House of Marley over other Audio/Lifestyle brands that you could have represented?

I love the passion behind the House of Marley and what they are trying to create and do. The quality, what they stand for… I love the creativity. Obviously, Bob Marley and what he stood for and how he creative he was. It just has inspired us all so much. I just wanted to be a part of it.

What’s your favorite House of Marley product? What about the House of Marley style were you drawn to?

The wooden headphones. When I was first introduced to the products, I loved the creativity with the wood. It was something that I had never seen before or seen anywhere else. It’s not only an audio system or a product, it’s also a fashion statement and art piece. That is one of the things that really drew me to it.

TysonChandler3 TysonChandler4

How do you #LiveMarley? What does #LiveMarley mean to you?

I #LiveMarley because whatever situation I’m in, whether it be the team I’m on or the various charities I’m involved in, I try to make the situation better than I found it. To me, that’s what Marley is all about. It’s about coming into a situation, putting your stamp on it and making it better than you found it.

How important is philanthropy, helping those less fortunate and giving back?

It’s very important. That should be the circle of life. You have to evolve as a person. I didn’t come from a great area and I definitely wasn’t privileged. It’s very important to me to give back to children who are less privileged because I was once in that situation. I want to inspire them and show them that they don’t have to stay in their current situation. They can get out of it and become anything they want to. I think it’s important for everyone to do that. It not only helps who you are aiming to help, but it also helps you within. It can also help you get a grip on reality.

TysonChandler2

What charities are you currently working with?

I work with UNICEF and that’s the biggest thing that I’m into right now. I went over to Africa last summer and really saw a lot of what they are doing and what they are trying to accomplish. That’s really my driving force right now.

How important is family to you?

My family is me. It’s what I live for everyday. I have three little ones and I’m molding them to be young women and a young man in society. I want to do the best I can. It’s the same as I said before… Put your stamp on something and leave it better than you found it. I’m molding them to do the same so that they can put their own stamp on the world and leave it better than they found it.

Bonus: Aside from being an all around nice guy and charitable person, Tyson Chandler can straight up play basketball. Check out some crazy jams, putbacks and alley-oops from his past few seasons with the New York Knicks.
