The House of Marley Heads Back to School

After the long and winding road that was summer on the 2012 Van’s Warped Tour, the House of Marley is already back behind the wheel of the Marley VW bus and showing off our in-ear headphones, on-ear headphones and over-ear headphones. Braving the powerful winds and rain of Hurricane Issac, the House of Marley bus will be zigzagging all over the eastern seaboard throughout September with sunshine and music in hand.

Having already hit up George Mason University and University of Virginia, the House of Marley campus tour will next stop at West Virginia University and Virginia Tech later this week to welcome students back to school in proper style. It might be a bummer that all the summer fun is coming to an end, but the House of Marley is bringing a reminder that fun is never far away when our in-ear headphones, on-ear headphones or over-ear headphones are nearby.

Moving out of Virginia in the second week of the campus tour, the House of Marley bus will continue onto North Carolina, South Carolina, labama and Florida, until reaching its final destination of Central Florida University on September 28. Look out for the House of Marley team in your town. Let us know how you #LiveMarley and you never know what kind of soul satisfying swag may come your way.

Won’t You Help To Sing: The House of Marley Celebrates Redemption Through Bob Marley Cover Songs

In his lyrical masterpiece “Redemption Song,” Bob Marley told the world that even if you don’t have much in life, you will always have a song of freedom in your heart. The resounding sentiment of independence and love that results from the lyrics of the song easily explains why it has become one of the most prominent Bob Marley cover songs. From the Clash’s Joe Strummer and Johnny Cash to Rihanna and Lauryn Hill, “Redemption Song” has become a staple cover in the years since Marley first recorded it in 1979.

When House of Marley began the process of naming our in-ear headphones and on-ear headphones, the decision to name a pair emblazoned with the Rastafarian colors, the Redemption Song was the easiest. The lyrics from the Bob Marley song reference a speech from the famous Pan-African freedom leader Marcus Garvey, in which he spoke about the release of all African descendants worldwide. Just like Marley says that a song is a link to freedom, Redemption Song in-ear headphones/on-ear headphones are a vessel for music that can lead many to the light at the end of the tunnel.

While there are no exact numbers on just how many Bob Marley cover songs have been recorded throughout the years, there are hundreds of recorded versions of “Redemption Song” from professional musicians, and even twice that amount from amateurs. In honor of one of Bob’s most treasured works and the House of Marley Redemption Song in-ear headphones/on-ear headphones, we’ve gathered together five of our favorite versions of “Redemption Song” for your listening pleasure. Check out these classic Bob Marley cover songs from Joe Strummer, Johnny Cash, Rihanna, Matisyahu and Lauryn Hill featuring Ziggy Marley.

#LiveMarley On The 2012 Vans Warped Tour: The End

Talk about a long and hot summer, but we did it! The first year for House of Marley sponsoring a stage at the Vans Warped Tour is now complete. I know I speak for everyone at HOM when I say we loved having our own stage to share the mission of Marley with each and every one of you!

Having said that, this will be my final blog from the road. Today I’m writing from the Portland airport before flying home to southern California. It feels so good to be back on the best coast – oops, I mean west coast.

Yesterday was actually my first full day off in two months. I slept in, and then went with a few friends to a beautiful “lazy” river in the Oregon mountains. I was told not to tell anyone where it is because it’s a “locals only” spot, but next time you’re in the Pacific Northwest, keep your eyes peeled for “Sandy Beach” off the Columbia River.

Anyway, back to the tour… If I had to pick the ten best shows we had this summer, it would have to be Denver, San Francisco, Ventura, Cuyahoga Falls, Tinley Park, Mansfield, St. Petersburg, and Milwaukee. I mean, all the shows were amazing in their own way, but these will be the shows that I will personally remember the most.

Before I sign off, I just want to give a huge shout-out to all the bands, crew, and fans that made the House of Marley stage a reality every day on the 2012 Vans Warped Tour.

As a proper farewell, I’ve put together a little parting gift for you all: a playlist of my favorite songs from the House of Marley stage at the 2012 Vans Warped Tour. Until next year, my friends….

Chris Hurley

–Bring a smile and a positive attitude. Remember, you are at the Warped Tour!
–Drink A LOT of water. No one can have fun dehydrated in the hot summer sun.
–Eat lots of healthy snacks! They’re delicious and they’ll fuel you through the day.
–Wear clothes you are willing to maybe never wear again. Prepare to get hot, sweaty, and dirty!
–Watch at least one band from each of the seven stages. The Vans Warped Tour is set up for you to see all your favorite bands, but also be exposed to dozens of other bands. You never know when you’ll discover your new favorite band. Explore a bit. You won’t be disappointed.

–Litter. There are more trash cans and recycling bins than there are bands on the Warped Tour. So use ‘em.
–Get so intoxicated that you forget where you parked your car! Believe it or not, we saw people with this problem at every single show.
–Steal! Vans Warped Tour is all about giving, but don’t steal from us. The bands and sponsors give away so many cool things that we were probably going to hook you up in the first place.
–Throw things on the stage (unless its your bra or underwear).
–Forget to come say hi to me and the rest of the House of Marley team at next summer’s Vans Warped Tour!!

#LiveMarley On The 2012 Vans Warped Tour: Week 4

With a 1955 VW Marley bus stocked with Marley headphones and a summer’s worth of sunscreen, the House of Marley’s Chris Hurley will be giving us a behind-the-scenes look at life On the Road with the 2012 Vans Warped Tour.

July 7 • Tinley Park, IL

Today we were just outside of Chicago in Tinley Park, Illinois. Chicago always has, and always will be a great American music city. We were so busy today that I am just now writing this from my bunk at 11:55 pm. In fact, we’re already driving to tomorrow’ show.
Today was a blur, but one band that stood out was The Green. They played an amazing set. Check them out. They’re from the 808 state of Hawaii and one of our favorites on the 2012 Vans Warped Tour House of Marley stage.

The Green, coming straight from the 808.

July 9 • Bonner Springs, KS

We’re in the heart of Midwest, USA today! Craig and I just got done throwing the football around with a few members of Ballyhoo!, Taylor just finished up her daily Yoga session, and now all of us are ready to begin spreading the good word about the House of Marley’s world class on-ear, in-ear and over-ear headphones. One thing I’ve noticed about the Midwest: people out here really do appreciate the eco-friendly side of our products. Pumped to keep making impressions everywhere we can!

Ballyhoo! amping up the Midwest.

July 11 • Cuyahoga Falls, OH

Today is another beautiful day for a rock show! All the trees and vegetation here in Ohio are so green and lush. Although it’s pretty hot and sweaty, I can’t complain because one of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever seen is selling bottled water in front of our stage all day long… I think I’m going to go over there and tell her all about “one love,” if you know what I mean.

July 12 • Burgettstown, PA

Ran into a few of the guys from All Time Low yesterday at our nightly backstage barbecue. Really cool and friendly guys. I started to tell them to come check out the House of Marley VW bus sometime, but before I could even finish, they insisted that all the House of Marley people come down to their set today, so that’s what we’re on the way to do now!
In addition, we have a really cool band joining the House of Marley stage… Say hello to Lost Prophets! Today is their first day on the 2012 Vans Warped Tour, and they deserve a warm welcome considering they came all the way from the UK!

July 13 • Holmdel, NJ

Today was a BIG day! So big, in fact, that its the largest single day in Warped Tour history! A total of 113 bands performed today, which is the most bands to have ever taken the stage in one day in the full 18 years of the Vans Warped Tour. In the midst of all the craziness, Justin from Anti-Flag ended up hanging with us on our bus after their set, pumped on his new pair of Zion Midnight in-ear headphones!

Justin from Anti-Flag is the latest to #LiveMarley.

The House of Marley is hitting the beach with all our on-ear, in-ear and over-ear headphones in tow to sponsor the East Coast Surfing Championship. Taking place in Virginia Beach August 20 through 26, the weeklong music, film and surfing event will bring together riders from all over the world for a contest of epic proportions.

The East Coast Surfing Championships offers the chance for surfers of all ages and experience levels to enter a competition for a shot at some awesome prizes. Sponsored by Vans and the House of Marley, the week’s big event will be the Pro Men surfing contest, which has a grand prize of $155,000.
